Since 1970, Bishop, a town nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains, has hosted the annual Mule Days event over Memorial Day weekend. Initially conceived as a way to kick off the packing season and attract vacationers to the Owens Valley, Mule Days has evolved into a unique and vibrant gathering. What started as a casual assembly and skill showcase has blossomed into a world-renowned affair, blending elements of a mule show, Wild West spectacle, and competitive event. Drawing over 30,000 spectators, the six-day extravaganza features 14 shows spotlighting more than 700 mules alongside their trainers, riders, and packers. With diverse competitions ranging from Western and English riding to chariot racing and team roping, the event offers something for every mule enthusiast. Renowned announcers Bob Tallman and Bob Feist provide lively commentary, adding to the excitement and entertainment.

Beyond the competitive arena, Mule Days offers a rich tapestry of experiences to enrich attendees’ enjoyment. From country music concerts to the country’s longest non-motorized parade, the festivities extend far beyond the fairgrounds.
