Point Cloud Complete

Point Cloud Map of Ryan, CA

This “aerial” image is composed of the point cloud data from our scanning project. It represents an overview of the scope of the documentation work we are involved with at the site. The shadowed and missing areas in the image represent lack of data, this has been addressed with additional scanning work that will “fill in the gaps.”

As our Archeologist Jessica Smith shares, “This is so awesome because it looks like an aerial photo but it is actually a computer generated image based on scanning every building, feature, and nook and cranny at the site. The is an invaluable preservation tool because Ryan, as it looks today in 2016, is recorded in perpetuity. I sure wish this technology existed 100 years ago, however then there may not be a need for lowly archaeologists like me.”
