One of the most unique experiences in Death Valley is a tour of Ryan, CA. Ryan is a privately owned, historic borax mining camp stewarded by the Death Valley Conservancy.

Tours last between two and a half to three hours and include:

• Learning the history of Ryan from our professional staff that have deep expertise in historic preservation, archeology, and mining
• Enjoying a guided walking tour of the grounds and select buildings with the opportunity to take pictures and ask questions
• Seeing the exciting restoration and preservation efforts currently underway, and hearing about plans for future projects
• Experiencing firsthand the special Death Valley spirit that Ryan embodies while making memories together that will last for life

Please note that touring Ryan is moderately strenuous and requires a fair amount of walking – up and down stairs and on uneven terrain. The Death Valley location means that the weather can sometimes be quite warm.

With increasing demand for public tours, we have implemented a drawing for participant selection. Our tours are limited to a maximum of 15 individuals (up to 4 per “group” sign up including yourself) due to concerns for participant safety, site protection and safety, and staffing availability. Additionally, smaller groups get more out of the experience.
